If you’re in the mood for Mexican food at Walt Disney World, then look no further than Frontera Cocina at Disney Springs! It’s owned by celebrity Chef Rick Bayless, features foods from all over Mexico, and is the perfect place for a Disney Springs Date Night!
A big thanks to Frontera Cocina for hosting us for a delicious, date night dinner. We received a complimentary meal but all of my opinions are honest and my own.
When most people think about a trip to Disney World, they see it as a place for families, especially families with small children. However, as much as we love going with our five kids, we love going as a couple just as much (or maybe even more!!) and Frontera Cocina is a perfect place for a Disney date night!
I love the open kitchen concept at Frontera Cocina. Even though we were seated in a different room, we still made sure to take a peek and see the hustle and bustle of the busy kitchen.
Since it was just the two of us, we started the night with drinks, a departure from our usual round of water for the table. I had the Sangria- it’s made from scratch in small batches every day and it was divine. And Jake had the Watermelon Pink Flamingo, a delicious concoction of tequila, fresh watermelon and lime juice, orange liqueur, and a Tajin chile powder rim.
The bar area at Frontera Cocina is lively and colorful- we loved the lighting underneath the counter!
Frontera Cocina Eats
At Frontera Cocina, there are four options when it comes to guacamole: Verde, Bacon, Mango, and with Chili-Lime Chapulines. We went with the Verde on this visit, and as expected, it was amazing, thanks in part to Frontera Cocina’s avocados from Mexico and their use of primarily local and organic ingredients.
So if you’re wondering about those Chile-Lime Chapulines, they’re toasted grasshoppers! We ordered those on the side and both tried a few– they added a nutty crunch to the guacamole, buuuuuut I wouldn’t want to eat a plate of them!
As a self-proclaimed meatatarian, Jacob went with the Carne Asada, featuring Black Angus steak from a small farm in Indiana. The steak is marinated for 24 hours and that marinade is straight from Heaven- I would literally add it to everything from now on if I could! I ordered the Chipotle Shrimp and it was lick the bowl clean amazing! (Both are served with warm corn tortillas that are made fresh in-house)
We wrapped up our Disney date night on a sweet note with two different desserts! The Pecan Pie Bar tastes more like a pecan-infused brownie than traditional pecan pie (which made me a happy camper!) and is topped with Mexican vanilla ice cream. The Coconut Lime Cuatro Leches is like a tres leches cake but with the addition of coconut milk; it’s not quite as sweet as a traditional tres leche cake and was a nice, refreshing end to our dinner.
We really enjoyed our date night at Frontera Cocina- everything was delicious from the drinks to dessert! We’ll definitely be back again when we want to get away from the parks (and kids!) and enjoy a nice dinner.
